Yesterday, I said the following:
“If this Word, what we read and study every week doesn’t change us and transform us, we’re honestly just going through the motions. We’re saying we’re following Jesus while He is walking forward, away from us, and we are standing still.”
I know it is difficult to hear, but it came out of a heart of love for each and every one of you. Because it is the truth. How do I know it is truth? Because I can find messages saying the same thing in His Word. And so, for today, I just want to share some of those messages for you to think about.
James 1:22-25: Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
1 John 3:16-18: This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Romans 2:13: For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
Matthew 7:24-27: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
We don’t do all this out of obligation. We do all this out of love. A love for a God who has done everything for us. We do because of what He has done. He redeemed us so that we can once again be in relationship with a holy, perfect, just, and loving God. It’s time for us to know the Word, understand the Word, and go out to this town and fulfill the word.
